Liberal Arts and Sciences Courses

Second Foreign Languages

We offer seven languages as second foreign language electives: German, French, Russian, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, and Italian. By engaging in elementary and intermediate studies of a language other than English, students are encouraged to view their native tongue and their existing English proficiency through a comparative lens. This curriculum is designed to cultivate a multifaceted perspective while fostering the communication skills essential for navigating the accelerating globalization of the 21st century.

Students must select one language available to their respective faculty and complete the required credits for graduation by progressing through various levels—such as Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced—within that same language (please refer to the Course Registration Guide for details).

International students have the additional option of selecting Japanese language courses. Please note that enrollment caps apply to all second foreign languages except Japanese. In the event that demand exceeds capacity, a lottery system will be employed to determine final placements.
